Below you will find a continuation of my serial Diary of Sam. Chapter 2 switches back to Sam’s perspective and follows directly after the events in the prologue. You will notice XX in place of where names still need to be decided within the novel. Paid subscribers have the opportunity to decide what names should be in place. There will be more opportunities like this in the future!

Trigger Warnings: This story contains animal abuse, talk of self-harm, implicated sexual assault, and graphic depictions of violence. If you are not in the head space to read about these themes, please choose a different story of mine, though most are dark.

Start from the beginning:

Prologue

Dawn was breaking by the time I pulled open the screen door of the trailer. I did my best to buffer the squeal but I was mostly betting on XX & XX being as drunk as I left them the night before. I grabbed my Sunday best from my room which was just some unripped jeans and a clean shirt and headed into the bathroom, locking the door behind me.

I turned the water on to let it heat up before I stopped in front of the mirror.

I inhaled deeply and exhaled through my nose. I watched and felt flakes of blood peel up from around my nostrils from the movement. I don’t think I realized how much blood covered my face, my neck, and down the front of the clothes I was wearing. I didn’t look like myself but at the same time, I did. It was like I was always meant to look like this despite how unfamiliar it felt to see.

Red was my color.
